Raid the Stash Week 4
Block #4 - Old Maid's Puzzle

A lot of triangles in this one, but don't worry! Old Maid's Puzzle is a relatively easy design. Instructions make one 6" block.

Select 2 fabrics + your base for each block.
Cut 2 : 2.5" squares from colour 1
Cut 1 : 4" square from colour 2 then cut diagonally in half
Cut 1 : 2.5" square from colour 2
Cut 4 : 2" squares from your base
Cut 5 : 2.5" squares from your base (cut 2 squares diagonally in half)

Take all your 2.5" squares. On your base colour mark along the diagonal and 1/4" either side (refer individual units in diagram). Sew along the lines as shown and cut down the middle. Press open and set aside.

Take your colour 1 half squares and your 2" base squares and sew them together (refer orange parts of the diagram). Two quarter units of this block are complete, set them aside.

Take your triangles which were cut from your 2.5" square base (4 triangles) and sew them to either side of your colour 2 half square to form a triangle. Sew this triangle to your large colour 2 triangle pressing as you go. (refer light blue parts of the diagram)

Take your four quarters and sew them together to form rows, then sew your rows together to complete the block.

Repeat to make 4 blocks with different fabrics.

I'm still amazed to remember how much I disliked all of the fabrics I chose for this project. I'm starting to like this now!
