Grandmothers Choice
Block #6 - Grandmother's Choice

We're half way there!
This weeks block has a couple of little issues in the construction. Firstly 6" doesn't divide into 5 very easily. I think the idea of this block is to have the centre square match the corner squares in size, however my corners ended up a little larger. Also make sure you trim when instructed otherwise your blocks may end up a little large. This was an awkward one.

Select 2 fabrics + your base for each block.
Cut 2 : 3.5" squares from colour 1 and cut on diagonal
Cut 4 : 2" squares from colour 2
Cut 1 : 1.5" squares from colour 2
Cut 4 : 1.5" x 3" from your base colour
Cut 4 : 2.5" squares from your base colour and cut on diagonal

Take your 2" squares (colour 2) and the base colour triangles. Sew the triangles to two edges of each of the squares to form large triangles and press. Trim the diagonal if you need to. Sew these triangles to the large colour 1 triangles. Press and carefully trim to ensure your blocks are 3" square.

Join your square blocks together in the middle with one of the base colour rectangles and press seams towards the centre.

Join the remaining 2 rectangles with the 1.5" colour 2 square and press seams outwards.

Join the pieces together as shows in the picture and press.

Repeat to make 4 blocks with different fabrics.

Post your Progress in the Flickr Group

It is great to see you using the flickr group and keeping up. I'm getting excited to see this finished. I'm a little late on this post (sorry)... Renovating the laundry as well as going back to work has been tiring! I'll try and get the next block done during the week so I can post it early/on time for next week!

Hi Mandy! Sure are half way. I plan on 12 designs (or maybe 13 if we need a couple of extra blocks) and then doing up the quilt as well.
