Together At Last

Space Invader Army
Army of Invaders

I must admit I am really happy with the bright colours and how this has gone together. All of the pieces are complete, including a laser bullet being shot from the tank. The colours are bright and cheery and beautifully contrasting with the black.

It is quilting time! I'm not quite sure what I should do for quilting, but perhaps I should experiment with some free motion on this one. It isn't very wide at only 26"x70" so it should be easier to manipulate than a full blown quilt, but I will have to practice first.

How would you quilt something like this?

It's so cute! I bet this would be a hugely popular quilt for boys =)

This looks really cute. Please show us the entire quilt once it is quilted. It's sure to be a winner!

Oh my gosh! I never in a million years would have thought of doing this quilt, but it's so obvious that the old pixel style of video game lends itself perfectly to quilt blocks! You should totally make quilting lines that show the progress of the aliens as they come down the screen - like straight across then down then across, to give it movement.

Thanks everyone! (pattern is coming!!)

I'd like to quilt pixel lines, but I'm not sure if that would make obvious some of the tiny alignment faults that are not obvious at the moment. I've also thought of stippling only the black and leaving the coloured sections, or trying to do a stipple with a star pattern. I am going to do some practice quilting first and see what the colours take best.

It really would make a great boys quilt. Or a great, mans quilt if you have a retro game enthusiast son or partner.

This one is a wall hanging, but I am contemplating cushions and a single bed quilt too because the bright colours are so effective.

Fun. I recently saw a cartoon that had space invaders on it. It said, "If you know what this is, you are no longer young."

sewkatiedid - so true. I'm just old enough to remember the first home computers (late 20s) and retro is the new black ;)

I love the concept! I am sure that the finished product will look just great. I would do standard stipling on the black, but in the "invaders" you could just do ditching aroung them and perhaps like another reader suggested, down the pixel lines.

Thanks Margaret. I just need the backing, and the guts to try stippling. I think you're right though and that will be all it needs.
